Travel documents needed to travel to Laos

My grandmother would like to travel Laos to visit her children and
relatives. She is a green card holder and I understand that reentry
permit is not require because she will only be there for 1 month. My
question is what kind of passport or documents would she need? She
would need some form of passport so she can get her visa, so please
share if you have information.

i have not gone back to that old country yet but for an elder it would better to get a visa before taking the flight over. because without a pre approve visa and the traveler having to go through immigration booth to get the temporary visitor visa could be a big hassle.

another point might be worth doing is to bring minimum items for the travel. just pack the most essential items into a carry-on pack size so she does not have to run around finding her boxes or luggages. during all the time both inside and out side of the airplane she will have her luggage with her. please remember to check airline carry-on pack size before going to the airport so that you do not pack too much into an over-size luggage an end up having to surrender her pack to go as normal luggage and not carry-on anymore.

another good reason to pack minimum item only is the issue that might arise from having to take those item through gates for import/export control items.

delivered by the embassy of Lao PDR in
Washington. Since she is an elderly person (over 65 years old and of
Lao origin) she will be excempted from Visa
fees.

You didn't mention that Vster MUST remember to hand the immigration
officer at the gate some "under the table money" otherwise he won't
stamp Vster's passport. Now if he's Lao, maybe he'll get to a free
pass....However, if he's Hmong, 99.9% they'll play the stalling game
until he realized he has to pay them. This is SICKENING!! NO RULES NO
LAWS and NO ENFORCEMENT for these idiots to oblige.

I wonder when will your government going to do anything about this
problem?

obtain visa. But since the reentry permit cost ~ $400, and the rule is
if the stay is not over 1 year, it is not required. What would she use
as her passport? Yes, she is a Lao origin, but she's been here too
long and would not be able to obtain a Lao passport.

You can NOT avoid the reentry permit. As a non U.S citizen and a green
card holder or I-551 she needs to have a Reentry Permit. However, if
she is an I-94 holder--She needs a Refugee Travel Document. In your
grandma case--when she gets her Reentry Permit--That is her PASSPORT--
immigration officials in any country that she visits will stamp into
the page of the Reentry Permit. If she wants to avoid paying $400 for
the Reentry Permit--then she needs to apply for U.S. citizen and get a
regular U.S. passport which cost a little more than $100.

Is the travel document needed for re-entry or is it needed to get into Laos?

I been to Laos before with a as a green card holder. She would have to get a travel document which looks like a passport book also called a reentry permit which last for 2 years. Yet she has to go get her Visa here in the u.s. since she is not a citizen. She can send her travel document in the mail first day air to Washington D.C. with a returning envelope back.

passport but only last 2 years for permanent resident or green card
holder only (if apply, take 3 to 6 months), AND a visa to enter Laos.
It doesn't matter how short or how long she would stay, Laos requires
a visa to enter her country.
